In this online workshop, Christopher Azzara will provide an approach to improvisation that improves your musicianship and that of your students—making connections for teachers at all levels of instruction and experience.
Participants will sing, move, play instruments, and will be introduced to practical techniques designed to:
- improve audiation/music understanding;
- develop improvisation skills in a variety of musical styles;
- include improvisation as an integral part of their teaching and learning; and
- understand the relationships among listening, improvising, reading, and composing.
The online workshop will use Azzara’s newest publications: the newly revised Jump Right In: The Instrumental Series (3rd revision); and Developing Musicianship through Improvisation 1-B, and other DMTI materials, which include skills with several partimenti—centuries-old chord progressions used for learning harmony, counterpoint, improvisation, and composition that musicians still perform in a variety of styles today.
